He’s Scott and I’m Alex. We’ve been together for over 2 years and in that time we’ve been to 15 different countries together (17 if you include England and Wales). On our recent trip to Australia we got engaged, and so are now trying to find some kind of balance between spending all of our money on holidays and planning a wedding.
We live in England, in a rural county called Wiltshire – so we’re country bumpkins at heart. We both work full time, Scott works in Construction Project Management and I work in Marketing, but we use our holiday days wisely and will use any and all available time off to jet away for either a weekend city break or a long haul adventure!
We had both been to plenty of countries before we met (Scott is on his 35th country and i’m on my 26th) but we’ve ‘discounted’ these for the purpose of our blog, so that we only share our joint experiences! We aim to visit five new countries a year, which means that so far, we’re right on track. Not only are we trying to see as many countries as possible, we are also trying to do lots of weird and wonderful things. This all started a few years ago when Scott was working away a lot and decided to write a bucket list with not only the usual – seven wonders of the world, skydiving and getting married – but also some of the simple things in life such as milking a cow, baking a cake and owning a hot tub (the last two were of a great benefit to me, which was a bonus!!).
We usually have at least one or two holidays booked at any one time, so that we always have something to look forward to. If we don’t already have a destination in mind (which we rarely do), we sit down one evening with our laptops and travel books – and maybe a cheeky wine or two to help give us the courage to press book before necessarily checking our financial status – and do a bit of research into the possible dates, locations and activities. Unless there is a clear winner, we’ll agree to narrow it down to three, and let the flight costs make our decision for us.
Just like that, we have another holiday booked.
